Summary

Bob Moore’s journey into art began with a transformative experience during his fourth-grade field trip to an exhibition of Vincent Van Gogh’s paintings. Standing before the wheat field series, he was captivated by the vivid energy and emotional depth of the work. This defining moment ignited a lifelong passion for art, transforming it into a true calling.

Moore’s artistic development unfolded at the University of Maryland, where he immersed himself in the world of surrealism and symbolism. The subconscious musings of surrealists, combined with his admiration for the works of Van Gogh and Andrew Wyeth, shaped his creative vision. These influences led him to explore the symbolic and the mystical, delving deep into the realms of the unseen and the unknown.

After earning degrees in studio art, art education, and a Master of Arts, Moore spent 34 years teaching art at the high school level and at UNCC. While cherishing the opportunity to guide and inspire young artists, his own practice remained rooted in the exploration of symbolic imagery, dreamlike landscapes, and the introspective nature of the human experience.

Moore’s works are often imbued with a sense of mysticism. Each piece invites the viewer to step into a world where symbolism and surrealism intertwine, creating a space where the conscious mind meets the subconscious. Moore believes that art has the power to reveal hidden truths, provoke thought, and offer glimpses into realms beyond our immediate perception.

Through his work, Moore aims to evoke both mystery and introspection, guiding the viewer through a visual dialogue that transcends the literal and enters the realm of the symbolic and surreal. By doing so, he hopes to continue the tradition of artists who seek not only to represent the world but to illuminate the mysteries that lie just beneath its surface.
