Summary
Sandy Collier expresses herself through vibrant watercolors, acrylics, mixed media, and alcohol inks, passionately painted from the heart. Known by many as “The Master Gardener Artist,” most of her inspiration comes from her gardens of past, present, or the wonders of nature.
She dreamed of becoming an artist, taking many art classes in high school and at the museum. That was put on hold for a 35 year career in nursing and family life. After retirement, she was able to take watercolor lessons from four local artists, then switched mediums. Sandy now enjoys painting often, at her third art studio located at Arts on the Greenway. Sandy sells from the gift shop area at AoTG and has an extensive line of her paintings on greeting cards. She also has a special line of small artworks called “Tiny Treasures by Sandy.” These are very popular as reasonable gift items.
Being a lifetime colorist, she says “Color adds beauty to the world and we need more of that these days.” Besides painting for 20 years and being a Master Gardener for over 25 years, she has taken hundreds of photographs since childhood, winning several awards. She was also a North Carolina Field Editor for Birds and Blooms Magazine and has been in several of their publications.
Sandy now gives classes in acrylics, mixed media, acrylic inks, and alcohol inks as well as private lessons which can be scheduled in your home or at AoTG. One special feature about her classes is she provides all the supplies! A nominal supply fee is charged with the class fee. She loves to work with beginning adults who say they “do not have an artistic bone in their body.” She will prove them wrong!
She resides in the Belmont-Cramerton area.
