I have been an artist since I was a child, but really claimed my persona in fourth grade. My family moved originally from Ohio to North Carolina. I was misunderstood because I spoke differently. I became quite withdrawn and introverted because of my extreme sensitivity; however, something unique emerged. I suddenly developed the ability to draw and portray things realistically. I could express myself and hide behind my art. I did this for many years. Artistic expression has always been my safe place psychologically, physically, and spiritually. I majored in art in college earning a BFA from UNC with a concentration in painting.
n my thirties, I had a midlife crisis which culminated into a spiritual awakening. I prayed to be delivered and the thought came to me to seek Baptism even though I knew I had been baptized as a baby within the Methodist Church. A year later it worked out that I journeyed to Israel with my Bible study group and was baptized in the Jordan River. Even though I traveled to the physical sites where Jesus walked, it was more of a promise to cultivate a heart like Christ. My natural gifts and abilities are dedicated to reflect my inward spiritual journey. I presently work in a multiple array of media primarily painting on canvas as well as silk painting.
I am currently employed as an arts educator and teach enrichment classes to adults and youth. I am offering classes in Drawing and Therapeutic Arts. I hope to encourage imagination and creativity in those I teach as well as an appreciation for the beauty that surrounds each and every one of us.
